Another successful BERMUN 2 Conference is coming to its close. Many of this year’s participants were surprised by this year’s theme: Sports for Peace and Development. Prior to the conference, I heard people question: “Is this topic really relevant on a global basis?” But as I researched for my first article of the conference, I realized sports have much more potential than many might believe. Sports can aid the global community in a number of different ways. They can be implemented to achieve health education, overcome ethnic conflicts, and reunite communities in post-war situations.
The Press Team truly enjoyed working with this topic in a variety of ways: interviewing people about their sport preferences and opinion on the topic, filming others playing sports for video footage, and observing committees in action to gather article material. But what really convinced me of the relevance of this issue was an advertisement I saw in the U-Bahn on the way to the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung: “Soccer: Another Reason to Visit Poland” - especially with Europe preparing for the UEFA European Soccer Championship in Poland and the Ukraine this summer. I am happy that BerMUN 2 participants received the opportunity to gain more insight on this topic. This year’s conference proved to be very inspiring and allowed numerous new Press Members to gain experience and bond with the Press family.
